Megunticook Medicine Team

Brian R Pierce, MD - Family Medicine

Founder, Megunticook Medicine

Brian Pierce, a graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy, was stationed in Maine at Bath Iron Works.  While there, he completed his premedical studies at the University of Southern Maine and then attended Dartmouth Medical School on an Air Force scholarship and training in family medicine at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland.

In the Air Force, he practiced inpatient and outpatient family medicine at Misawa Air Base, Japan and Dover Air Force Base, Delaware.  In 2002, Dr. Pierce and his family moved to Camden, Maine, where he joined an independent family medicine and psychiatry practice.  For twelve years, Dr. Pierce was an owner of Midcoast Medicine.

Dr Pierce had also been a part-time hospitalist for Midcoast Medicine, Penobscot Bay Medicine Center and Midcoast Hospital.

Our state medical society, the Maine Medical Association, selected Dr Pierce as their president in 2015 and he chairs their independent practice group. He also was one of the founders of the New England Direct Primary Care Alliance.

Dr. Pierce lives in Union with his wife Andrea. In their spare time, they keep busy with their four adult children and their 9 month old poodle, Moxie. He also enjoys kayaking and fly fishing.

Adeline (Adda) Winkes, MD, FAAP - Pediatrician

Dr. Adda Winkes is a native of Providence, RI, who has been fortunate enough to live and work in several different regions of the US including: Illinois, Hawaii, Virginia - and now Maine.

Dr. Winkes attended Brown University, graduating from the School of Medicine in 1998. She completed her pediatric residency at the University of Chicago Children’s Hospital, on the South Side of Chicago, and earned board certification in pediatrics in 2001.

After graduating, she became a pediatric hospitalist at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children, a pediatric tertiary care center in Honolulu, HI. She enjoyed learning a whole new set of skills there, with an introduction to tropical medicine, an appointment as a clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at John A Burns School of Medicine, and eventually a promotion to Division Head of the Pediatric Hospitalist Division at Kapiolani.

She met and married her husband, Tim Kunkel, while living in Honolulu. They and their family moved on his (active duty Navy) orders to Virginia in 2007. While in Virginia, Dr. Winkes worked at a busy outpatient Navy clinic on the weekends - and gained ‘real life’ pediatric experience raising her young children during the week.

She, her husband and their three children moved to Rockport in 2016 after her husband retired from active duty. She has provided both inpatient and outpatient care at Pen Bay Pediatrics, from 2016-2024. She served as Chair of Pediatrics for PBMC and Site Director for Pen Bay Pediatrics and enjoyed teaching medical students and pediatric residents from Tufts Medical School and Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Winkes will be joining Megunticook Medicine in July 2024.

She has been intrigued by other models of care for some time and is enthusiastic about the promise that Direct Primary Care offers: to spend more time with her young patients and their families - exactly the part of practicing medicine that she enjoys the most.

Jennifer Overlock - Practice Manager

Jennifer started with Megunticook Medicine in 2015.

She worked with Dr. Pierce at his previous practice, Midcoast Medicine, where she started as a clinical assistant in 1999. Over the next 16 years in between starting a family, Jennifer excelled both clinically and administratively. At the time of her departure in 2015, she was leading the clinical team and had taken on several administrative roles within the practice.

After hearing Dr. Pierce speak of Direct Primary Care, she was very intrigued by the simplicity of DPC and the opportunity to provide great care without insurance involvement.

She and Dr. Pierce have now worked together for over 20 years.

Jennifer lives in Warren with her husband and 2 college-aged daughters. She enjoys hiking and spending time at her camp up north.
